September PTCA Meeting: Tree Care for Wildlife BMPs

Our next meeting of the Professional Tree Care Association of San Diego will be held on September 1st at Filippi’s Pizzeria on Kearny Villa Road. We invite all members, arborists, and tree care professionals in the San Diego area to attend for an evening focused on industry education, networking, and practical discussion related to real-world field operations.

Urban trees provide critical habitat for birds and other wildlife, and arborists play an important role in protecting these resources while safely performing tree work. This one-hour overview introduces the Tree Care for Wildlife Best Management Practices (BMPs) developed through the Western Chapter ISA Tree Care for Birds and Wildlife committee.

Participants will gain a practical understanding of how to recognize wildlife habitat, identify common nesting situations, understand the legal responsibilities surrounding protected wildlife, and apply a simple risk-based decision-making process before beginning tree work.

While this session is a condensed version of the full Wildlife Trained Arborist course, attendees will leave with actionable knowledge they can immediately apply in the field and an understanding of the resources available for further training. The presentation is based on the Tree Care for Wildlife Best Management Practices manual and emphasizes balancing tree care, worker safety, and wildlife conservation.
