Come join us for our monthly meeting June 1st, 2021 at 4pm-6pm.

TWO OPTIONS TO ATTEND – IN PERSON or ONLINE.

Program – Dr. Gary Bender - Avocado High Density for Landscape - Many people in Southern California love to have avocado trees in their backyard.  However, an avocado tree can grow up to 40 ft high and it doesn’t make much sense in a backyard where people are trying to pick their avocados.  Dr. Gary Bender has been doing research on high density avocado planting and in his talk he will describe how you can keep an avocado tree low enough for the home owner to pick the fruit from the ground, and increase the yield at the same time.

Dr. Bender’s talk will be followed by Matt Smith, Kurt Peacock and Dave Ephron leading a discussion focusing on the summer pruning of deciduous fruit. The Stein Family Farm is an excellent venue to come and enjoy learning a niche category of arboriculture. This discussion will provide you with a basis understanding of citrus. Matt Smith will be doing pruning demo as part of the meeting.

Please bring hand pruners so that you will be able to participate in the pruning section of the meeting.

We will see you at the Stein Family Farm located at 1808 F Ave, National City 91950.  Street parking will be available.   If you are unable to join us onsite – you can also attend online.  We will be using the GoToWebinar system this month.

Local COVID Safety Compliance requires we do a pre meeting temp check / wear face covers/masks wash hands, avoid physical contact and maintain personal distances.   If you are feeling sick, please stay home.
