Our July Tree walk will focus on the tree legacy started by the Kimball brothers in 1868.

These three brothers were builders and contractors from San Francisco looking for future opportunity. They purchased the entire 26,000 acres of what was Rancho de la Nacion or National Ranch. One lasting mark of the Kimball’s was the thousands of trees they planted. This tree importation, from Europe and Asia, was accomplished via a partnership with the U.S. Department of Agriculture. These trees can be found dotted throughout the city to this very day. It was the passion and influence of the Kimball’s as well as other early pioneers that made way for the city’s incorporation on September 17, 1887. The Stein Family farm is also a small part of their vast legacy for San Diego County. Eucalyptus and Lemons were just a part of the tree list. Ultimately this began the foundation of the celebrated city, retaining the National name. National City.

Alden Pedersen will lead us on a visit to the local history center and share details of some of surviving trees located nearby.
